Daniela Vintila joined the Centre for Ethnic and Migration Studies (CEDEM) at the University of Liège in February 2017 as a postdoctoral researcher in the ERC-funded project “Migration, transnationalism and social protection in (post-) crisis Europe” coordinated by Dr Jean-Michel Lafleur. Prior to that, she was a member of the British team of the international project “Pathways to power: the political representation of citizens of immigrant origin in eight European democracies” at the School of History, Politics and International Relations of the University of Leicester.
She holds a PhD in Law and Political Science from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, a MA degree in “Democracy and Government” from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, a BA degree in International Relations and European Studies from the National School of Political and Administrative Studies (Romania) and a BA degree in Law from Spiru Haret University (Romania). Daniela Vintila was visiting researcher at the European University Institute (Italy) and the University of Edinburgh (UK).
Her interests lie, especially, in the areas of comparative politics, EU politics, citizenship, international migration, electoral behaviour, political representation, institutional design in regional integration organizations and social protection policies. Her PhD dissertation (“The European citizenship and the electoral rights of non-national EU citizens in the EU Member States”) focused on the political practice of the EU citizenship in the electoral field, through a comparative analysis of the patterns of political participation of all groups of non-national EU citizens at EP and local elections held from 1999 onwards in ten EU countries: France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Austria, Sweden, Finland and Denmark.
Daniela Vintila was teaching assistant at the University of Leicester (BA module on European Union Politics) and guest lecturer at different academic institutions in Spain, China and the UK. She is currently participating as external collaborator in two research projects funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness: “Diverse municipal councils? The political representation of immigrants in Spain” (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, PIs: Dr Santiago Pérez-Nievas and Dr Guillermo Cordero) and “Institutional design in comparative regional integration” (Spanish National Research Council, PI: Prof Carlos Closa).
She is member of the Executive Board of the International Political Science Association (IPSA) Research Committee on European Unification and she was recently elected as member of the Steering Committee of the ECPR (European Consortium for Political Research) Standing Group on Immigration and Ethnicity.
